10.02.02 SET STRIKE

4:30 PM - 7:00 PM, THE BROADWAY THEATER. Lew, Dave and Leslie arrive for set strike. Leslie forgets her tools and is practically useless. We all think that the photos of set strike look a lot like photos of set construction. We settle up the finances and put this show in the can. Thanks everyone! See you in February, 2003.

Total WAWA 20 oz. coffees consumed: None, it's time to de-tox.

09.29.02 OUR LAST PERFORMANCE and CAST COLLAPSE (USUALLY REFERRED TO AS A CAST PARTY) 2:55 PM, THE BROADWAY THEATER - STAGE RIGHT. All that hard work has paid off, so let's take one last look at our talented cast before the final curtain closes.
6:30 PM - DAVE'S BACKYARD FOR CAST PARTY. We are all too tired to have a serious cast party, so we just relax out back for a little while, then return home to visit our real lives.

09.27.02 MARK GOES TO GREAT LENGTHS TO GET ATTENTION

1:30 AM, COOK'S BAR AND GRILL. The director is relaxing with Fran, Clark, Mark, Brandon, Damian and a few of our closest friends over a lovely pint of Guinness, when she glances over in time to see Mark, with his head back and his eyes rolled up into his head, and Brandon shaking him slightly saying "Mark? Mark? Come on buddy, are you alright?!" To make a long story short, the EMT's were called because Mark had, apparently, passed out. The director follows him to the hospital, relunctantly leaving her unfinished Guinness, and is soon joined by Brandon and Damian. We all wait for Mark's wife Laurie to arrive and leave the mess in her capable hands. Laurie calls the director in the morning to say that Mark is fine, he was completely dehydrated and will be doing the show Saturday. Clark calls the director to ask how Mark is and to tell her that he finished her Guinness. The director removes another ten years off of her already shortened life.

Total Guinness consumed by Leslie: 3.5 ....By Clark: .5

09.25.02 OPENING NIGHT

7:40 PM, THE BROADWAY THEATER - UP STAGE CENTER. The cast looks a lot more confident than the director feels, since she ended up having to stage manage the show and is a little too tired to successfully multi-task. Still photos of the show are limited because the director will be backstage throughout the production. Lew will tape it on Friday night, so she'll have to catch it when it comes out on video.

09.24.02 TECH NIGHT! 1:00 PM - 11:00 PM, THE BROADWAY THEATER. Lew and Leslie arrive early to finish the set, finish the painting, clean up backstage, pin up curtains, etc., etc., and more etc., We work feverishly, knowing that the cast and crew will begin arriving around 6PM. When Fran arrives we can't immediately show her how the artwork spins because the walls are still wet. Flo arrives around 6:00 PM to get her props in order, and looks ready to go. We end up with two last minute, volunteer stagehands to help spin the art. All in all, our last rehearsal goes very smoothly and everyone seems ready for Opening Night. Break a leg! PHOTOS
09.23.02 THE MUNYON MIRACLE

4:00 PM TILL ???, THE BROADWAY THEATER. Lew and Leslie are still working on the set, expecting to have to wrap it up at 6:55 PM because the movie starts at 7:00, when Dan announces he's going to cancel the movie for that night. Lew and Leslie almost weep with joy. When Dave arrives, the good news sends him happily up three stories on a rickety ladder to fix the 75-year-old curtain. It's dark up there, he says.

09.22.02 ONSTAGE WITH PROPS, FINALLY!

8:00 AM - 7:30 PM, THE BROADWAY THEATER. The director calls her brother-in-law, Mark, last night and asks him to come in for some last minute, emergency set construction. He graciously complies and we get a lot done in the morning. Construction stops for rehearsal at 10:00 AM, where the actors finally have a chance to rehearse the show both in the theatre and with props. Damian has Eagles tickets and takes Brandon and Mark after rehearsal. Leslie works in the theatre with Mary Ann until 4:00 PM, when she leaves and is replaced by Lew and Mark (the brother-in-law). Construction cointinues until the movie starts at 8:00 PM.

FEH!
09.20.02 FRAMING THE ART HOURS AND HOURS IN THE BASEMENT AGAIN. The director waited nervously all week for the posters to arrive that she ordered a thousand years ago on art.com. The postman comes up the walk with a large carton and she can barely restrain herself from throwing herself on him. At last, the long awaited artwork has arrived. Now it's time to shove them into the 24 frames. PHOTOS
09.18.02 PAINTING AND BUILDING AND SEWING, OH MY!

ALL DAY LONG. EVERYWHERE. Trips to the printshop, running lines with Brandon, stopping by the Music Museum in Pitman to pick up the bells for Act I, Scene III, Staining the tables Calvin built for the set, stopping by the theatre to see how Lew and Bob are doing with the set construction, swinging by Jen's to pick up the sewing she did for the show...it's all too much. And we're not even close to being done. Sheesh.

Total WAWA 20 oz. coffees consumed: Not Nearly Enough, Thanks For Asking.

09.16.02 PRODUCTION MEETING 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, DIRECTOR'S BACK PORCH. Deanna, Flo and Leslie take advantage of the cool night breezes and sit outback to discuss the Prop Outline. After discussing the prop requirements for Act I, Scene II, neither Flo nor Deanna makes any effort to run screaming into the night. Leslie quickly describes the next sceneS requirements before the whole horrible reality sinks in and they bolt. They stay through all ten pages and make declarations like "no problem!" and "we can handle this easily". Director may actually sleep tonight. NO TIME
09.16.02 LINE BY LINE 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM, DIRECTOR'S DINING ROOM TABLE. Brandon arrives for the painful dissection of his monolgue in Act II. Progress is made. NO TIME
09.14.02 BORING BULLETIN BOARD 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, DIRECTORS'S BASEMENT AGAIN. I dunno, sometimes you just take pictures because it's a sick habit. PHOTOS
09.14.02 PRODIGAL SON RETURNS 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, THE BROADWAY THEATRE, Brandon rejoins the fold, and right after we were getting used to not having him around. It figures. PHOTOS
09.13.02 HOORAY FOR HERNIA

8:30 PM - 10:30 PM, COOKS BAR AND GRILL. Mark leads the cast to mutiny and declares that rehearsal is over. As his car sped away, he was heard saying "We did all we could without Brandon, now it's time to drink. Hernia my eye!". Such dedication to the craft.

Total Maraschino Cherries Consumed: 24

09.13.02 MAKING THE MENUS 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM, LESLIE'S BASEMENT. Since this is a play based in restaurants, Charlie, the waiter, offers his customers a menu in four different scenes. The director is now seeing props in her sleep. PHOTOS
09.11.02 PROP ACQUISITION 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM, LESLIE AND DEANNA ON PROP ROADTRIP. Leslie and Deanna hit Rochester Formal Wear (at both locations), Sears, South Jersey Party Supply, Odd Lot, Joann Fabrics, and Camden Restaurant and Bar Supply in an effort to acquire all the necessary items needed to keep the actors in props. Results of mission: 85% of props have been collected. We started so late because we had to watch 9-11 coverage. God Bless America! PHOTOS
09.09.02 SET DESIGN MEETING

3:00 PM AT THE DIRECTOR'S HOUSE. Len shows up to review scene designs and makes thousands of educated suggestions on what artists work should be considered when decorating the set.

But first they gorge on shrimp and crab legs sent home by Betty after the party she had yesterday. Thanks Betty! (she always makes too much, thank goodness!!)

Len and Leslie spend five hours on www.art.com ordering posters based on set designs. Director is amazed at how much she doesn't know about art when Len starts talking. Both agree that they made great choices. Both agree that they are nearly blind from looking at a monitor for five hours.

09.09.02 HERNIA OPERATION 9:00 AM AT THE FREE CLINIC. Brandon goes under the knife. Director mails card and lights candles at local church. INFO
09.08.02 EAGLES REHEARSAL

9:00 AM AT THE BROADWAY THEATER - BEFORE EAGLES HOME OPENER. Cast blocks all of ACT III, minus the "portfolio" scene, since Brandon can't do any stunts until after his hernia operation. No one is really concentrating anyway because they are constantly reminded about the Eagles game every time they look at Damian.

Cast signs a homemade Get Well Soon card before Brandon shows up. Director asks the Cast to "be nice" when signing the card so no one in Brandon's house reads it while he's asleep and gets offended. They ignore her.

As the witching hour finally approached, rehearsal was constantly interrupted with cheers of E-A-G-L-E-S...EAGLES!!!!! Director gives up and sends everyone home. Damian is the first to leave because he has a 65 inch TV screen.

8:00 AM AT THE BROADWAY THEATER FOR LEW, DAVE AND BOB, 11:15 AM FOR LESLIE WHO OVERSLEPT. The Director tries to explain her tardiness with a halfcocked story about lost-time and alien abduction, but no one believes her. She brings coffee as a peace offering.

09.06.02 UNDERGROUND REHEARSAL

7:00 PM TILL ????? - DAMIAN'S PARTY DEN. The cast couldn't rehearse at the VFW on Friday. Oh, by the way, Happy Birthday, Kitty. So they were forced underground into Damian's basement, to rehearse next to his pool table. Mark makes his argument for rehearsing on the pool table, but is outvoted. These shots were taken from a web-cam secreted in the Director's turban. Rumor has it that they "rehearsed" into the wee hours.

09.01.02 REHEARSAL #7

9:00 AM AT THE THEATRE. We normally rehearse at 10:00 AM but Mr. Wonderful had a wedding to go to (yeah, right) so we all dragged ourselves out of bed an hour earlier so he could get there in time. Rehearsed Act I and II. Director tells cast that they have to be off book for Act I by next rehearsal. Ha.

Act II, Scene II is rehearsed for the first time. Damian and Christina have to kiss for, like, a whole five minutes while Brandon talks to the back of their heads. Brandon and the director take their sweet time blocking Brandon's movements just to force Damian and Christina to have to kiss way longer than normal. Because it's funny, that's why.

08.31.02 SET CONSTRUCTION

8:00 AM AT THE BROADWAY THEATRE. Lew, Dave, Bob, Leslie and Len show up for set construction. Dave brings donuts. Leslie brings donuts. But Dave's donuts are better. Leslie is stuck with her stupid Tastykake donuts and gives them to the neighbor kids so she doesn't eat them all.

Lew, Dave and Bob started the set last week, but today need Leslie to be there to answer questions, as her demands are so unreasonable that they insist that she gets up at the crack of dawn to suffer along with them. Walls are framed out and locked into place. The solution to the "moving artwork" dilemma is finally solved.

Len and Leslie review layout and lighting and go to their separate homes to plan for set decoration, with promises to meet for a production meeting later in the week.

We eliminate using the Arc Spotlight because it hums so loudly.

08.28.02 PRODUCTION OUTLINE ALL DAMN DAY, INTO THE NIGHT, AND MOST OF THE NEXT DAY ON THE DIRECTOR'S DINING ROOM TABLE. It's one thing to know how you want the show to run and how you want it to look. It's another thing sharing your vision with the crew. PHOTOS
08.22.02 REHEARSAL #2 10:30 PM, AFTER REHEARSAL, COOK'S BAR & GRILL, three cast members and the director bond over drinks and poppers. Limitless use of duct tape is discussed at length. NONE
08.22.02 PHOTOS FOR BIOS 7:00 PM AT THE VFW HALL, Before rehearsal that night, director asks the cast to pose for photos. Mark initiates the madness with his "idea" of having him photographed coming out of the Ladies Room. The insanity spreads through the cast like a virus. PHOTOS
08.08.02 FIRST READ-THROUGH 7:30 PM DIRECTOR'S HOUSE, Brandon is late, so we watch Damian's Super Bowl Invitation that he sent out to his friends on a DVD. Sara can't make it at all, so when Mr. Libby shows up, Dave reads for Sara's role. Director wonders how Dave learned to sound exactly like a woman. NONE
